Diverse Learning Needs
Our Diverse Learning team focusses on the coordination of various roles within the College that support students’ learning requirements, as well as whole school priorities such as numeracy and literacy.
The team is made up of experienced and dedicated teachers and teacher assistants all working towards the common goal of providing a quality education that allows students to access the curriculum, and work to the best of their ability. Although each specialist teacher may have a specific role, every teacher works collaboratively with all members of staff to help a student achieve to the best of their ability.
The Learning Support Team works closely with the Year Co-ordinators.
Literacy is seen as an on-going whole school, cross curriculum initiative. NAPLAN results are used to help identify literacy needs and all staff are in-serviced about results and strategies that will support the learning of all students within their class. Programming and support materials are generated to complement the specific units of work.
The role we play is to support students with special needs or learning difficulties in the mainstream classroom. We follow the CEO Policy Guidelines when determining which students will receive Special Needs assistance.
We offer a wide range of services within the school, catering to each student's specific needs. Services include testing to identify specific needs, curriculum adjustments made in collaboration with mainstream teachers, individual and small group withdrawal as well as in-class support. Individual Adjustment Plans (IAPs) are written for Commonwealth Funded students and Special Provisions are organised for identified students.
English as a Second Language
Identified students are withdrawn from class on a regular basis to assist with their English literacy needs.
Indigenous students who are entitled to funding receive academic support.
Students with a Sensory Impairment
Specialist itinerant teachers from the Catholic Education Office work with identified students.
