At De La Salle College we believe we have a responsibility to develop our students’ ability to think critically about real-world issues to help them to develop an understanding of their role as global citizens. To achieve this, students are exposed to authentic, inquiry based learning experiences where they are encouraged to use higher-level thinking to create solutions to relevant, real-world problems.
Inquiry based learning is an approach to learning where the overall goal is for students to find meaning in their learning. While teachers may guide the inquiry to various degrees and set parameters for a classroom inquiry, true inquiry is internally motivated by the students. Inquiry based learning aims to address the constantly changing needs of 21st Century students, by disrupting traditional classroom teaching practices, to ensure students are being exposed to rich, authentic learning opportunities. This is the pinnacle of modern learning—a blended approach of inquiry, project, and process-based learning.

Positive Education brings together the science of Positive Psychology with best practice teaching to encourage and support individuals, schools and communities to flourish. We refer to flourishing as a combination of ‘feeling good and doing good’. Positive Education focuses on specific skills that assist students to strengthen their relationships, build positive emotions, enhance personal resilience, promote mindfulness and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Through teaching these valuable life skills, De La Salle College Ashfield provides its students with an increased capacity to learn effectively, as well as offering them a strong foundation on which they can build a successful life.
